Burlington Accessiblity Advisory Committee

Established in 1994, the Burlington Accessibility Advisory Committee (BAAC) is a citizen committee reporting to Council through the Committee of the Whole. The BAAC provides advice on the identification, removal and prevention of barriers to people with disabilities in the municipality's by-laws, policies, programs and services. The BAAC works in partnership with the City to create the Multi-Year Corporate Accessibility Plan and advises the City on accessibility issues, not only to help remove existing barriers but also to prevent new barriers from being created. It provides input to staff and Council about matters of accessibility. All site plans submitted to the City, including those of the private sector, are reviewed by the BAAC to make sure accessibility is considered before a building is constructed or modified. Members are available to speak to your organization about accessibility, welcoming people with disabilities into your workplace or business, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and its regulations. The Committee is a requirement by law through the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005. Represent Burlington seniors' perspectives on municipal and other key seniors' issues, for example: transportation, isolation, affordability, parks and recreation services, geographical service delivery. Provide a voice for Burlington seniors, exchanging information about current issues and emerging concerns. Provide input to city staff as requested and to the Halton Region's Older Adult Advisory Committee (OAAC) on an ongoing basis. Respond to seniors' community needs. Create and execute an annual work plan, which may include: hosting seniors' discussion forums, support strategic planning for development of local seniors' services, public information. Burlington Sustainable Development Advisory Committee

The Burlington Sustainable Development Committee is an advisory committee of Burlington Council. Our role in the community is to promote the principles and objectives of Sustainable Development and to advise and assist City staff and Council members on these issues. We do this by reviewing and commenting on land use policies and development applications, researching sustainable development issues and preparing position papers, and by participating in and hosting special sustainability events. The members of the Burlington Sustainable Development Advisory Committee are volunteer citizens who have been appointed by Council to advise on issues that relate to sustainable development. During the day, we are, or have been, architects, biologists, business people, developers, engineers, musicians, planners, stay-at-home parents, university students and more. Our common ground is our passion to minimize impacts on the environment and the belief that the City of Burlington is a great place to live, work and play.

Compliance Audit Committee

The City of Burlington, the Town of Oakville, the Town of Halton Hills, and the Regional Municipality of Halton have established a Joint Compliance Audit Committee for 2018-2022. This Committee is required by the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (the Act) to: Consider applications for compliance audit of the campaign finances of Candidates and/or Registered Third Parties and decide whether they should be granted or rejected. If an application is granted, appoint an Auditor to conduct a compliance audit of the Candidate’s and/or Registered Third Party’s election campaign finances Consider the Auditor’s report and if the report contains a conclusion of apparent contravention of the Act, decide whether to commence a legal proceeding against the Candidate and/or Registered Third Party for the apparent contravention Receive and consider report(s) from the Clerk identifying any contributors to a Candidate and/or Registered Third Party who appear to have contravened established contribution limits and decide whether to commence a legal proceeding against the contributor for the apparent contravention Decisions of the Compliance Audit Committee can be found here: https://www.burlington.ca/en/your-city/joint-compliance-audit-committee.asp
