Overview:

The 2022 Halton Freedom Celebration Festival, Saturday, July 30th at Spencer Smith Park, Burlington, brings together musical acts, children's activities, cultural art, food, crafts, and multi-cultural groups promoting inclusivity and community integration and celebrating 188 years of Emancipation which started by Upper Canada's Lieutenant Governor John Graves Simcoe. Burlington is the first city in the world to acclaim August as Emancipation Month (Festival 2018). Multi-cultural ambience will be infused with the best in Canadian R&B, Reggae, Soul, Funk, African, Jazz, Ska, Soca and Pop Artistry complimenting Basketball & Limbo Competitions; Drum and Art workshops, Art in the Park and numerous other youth activities and exquisite ambience.

This 2022 Halton Freedom Festival will showcase Canadian local musicians including Blackburn –2016 Juno runners up and recognized by Rolling Stone Magazine as the best blues band in Canada (2015), ; Dejehan Hamilton (Luckystickz), Berklee College of Music's 1st Steel Drum graduate with a International record including playing with Harry Belafonte. Michael Dunston, renowned vocalist for Soul Stew (Bamboo’s original home band of 40+ years), Crack of Dawn, The Lincolns (recognized as the Best R&B band in Canada), Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway shows, and numerous other Soul and Gospel productions. We were also pleased to present 11 x Canadian Music Award recipient, Errol Woodward of Messenjah fame, and his Reggae Band to our audiences; Garnetta & Dagroovmasters, a high energy show band that plays and sing the genres of Blues, Classic Soul & Funk, but they are also a reflection of Canada's multicultural society! Their style of upbeat music brings pure joy to all listeners and continues to spread their contagious & cheerful sounds throughout their live performances! Vanda Li and BACCAU, purveyor of Caribbean Funk; and the exceptionally talented Neema Children's Project from Uganda - 19 talented artists dancing, singing, and drumming towards fundraising to send school supplies to hospitals and orphanages back home. This is a free, public opportunity to get together with family and friends and experience our inclusive community celebration. See you there!!!
