This is an indoor/outdoor event. Visitors should dress according to weather conditions. In the event of thunder or lightning, the event will be held inside the shelter.
This event is free, however, monetary or gift donations to the Animal Shelter are welcomed. A list of items regularly needed by the shelter is available here.
In order to reduce stress on newly surrendered animals, outside pets are not allowed at this event.
The event includes:
a facility tour
meet and greets adoptable animals
games
prizes
ice cream and light refreshments
a birds of prey demonstration
Residents are invited to learn more about the ways Animal Services supports pets and animals in the community. Animal Services does more than just provide shelter to stray animals. They work to:
help connect stray, abandoned and surrendered animals with a compatible and permanent home
respond to community calls about stray and/or injured animals
reunite lost pets with their owners
proactively educate the public about the importance of microchips and dog licences
host and attend community events to educate residents about urban wildlife safety tips
Adoptions
Same-day adoptions unfortunately cannot be accommodated at the event; however, attendees can meet some of the current pets available for adoption and book a follow up adoption appointment. As always, residents can check out Petfinder to see all of the pets that are looking for homes. Residents can email at city@burlington.ca or call 905-335-7777 if interested in adopting, would like to set up an in-person appointment or have questions about any of the animals available for adoption.
Parking
On-site parking is available at the Animal Shelter. Parking is limited. Visitors are encouraged to carpool or take Burlington Transit.
