Robert Burns is the Bard of Scotland. His songs and poetry are admired and extolled around the world. His writings have served as an inspiration for numerous writers and freedom fighters. This afternoon concert shines a spotlight on American abolitionist Frederick Douglass, Nobel Prize-winning Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore and Ukrainian Poet Laureate Taras Shevchenko.
Acclaimed Canadian stage, film and television actor RH Thomson leads an ensemble that features singer/actor/musician Beau Dixon, singer/composer Suba Sankaran and a number of Canada’s finest instrumental musicians.
Included in the program are such time-honoured songs as “My Love Is Like a Red, Red Rose,” “Ae Fond Kiss: and, of course, “Auld Lang Syne.”
